"Read it.
And if anyone asks you how it ends, just LIE."
And if anyone asks you how it ends, just LIE."
I need to wipe my tears before I write this review. This book officially broke my heart.
Lockhart really made sure we understood that the picture-perfect family is usually not even close to perfect. We watch the realities of the rich and "beautiful Sinclair family" unravel. I really liked the idea of making an effort to break the stereotypical perfect rich family.
You might hear people ranting about how the characters were described as nouns but I LOVED the unique idea. It formed a clear image of what each person is like. Here's an example:
"He was contemplation and enthusiasm. Ambition and strong coffee."
"Johnny, he is bounce, effort, and snark."
The chemistry between Cadence and Gat has a special place in my heart. They had to struggle with what you can call "forbidden love". At times their scenes got too cheesy and, if you're not too young, you might find it irritating.
About the big secret of this book: There are definitely hints throughout, but I don't really think about what might happen next or how the book will end while I'm reading. That way the hints go unnoticed. I recommend you read the book without thinking about the famous big ending.
There is a difference of opinion on the writing style.
For me, personally, it was annoying.
I believe the author used this writing style to grab the reader's attention since people usually scan the way the text is written throughout the book. Or maybe it is written this way to make it seem more poetic.
To make you understand what I mean, here is a snippet of the book:
"It doesn't matter that one of us is desperately, desperately in love.
So much
in love
that equally desperate measures
must be taken."
I didn't like the MC's personality much. She was quite ungrateful for everything she had but I think that was the point of her character and the basis of her development.
This was all about We Were Liars. Overall, it was an amazing experience and I really loved it.
